What is yoga?

At its core, yoga is a blend of spiritual and physical practices originating from Hindu traditions. It involves breath control, meditation, and various postures (known as asanas), and it's widely celebrated for its health and relaxation benefits.


With styles like Hatha, Vinyasa, Bikram, Ashtanga, Kundalini, Yin, Power Yoga, and Yoga Sculpt, the options are endless. We've definitely taken this ancient spiritual practice and added our unique twists to it.


And that’s the beauty of yoga – making it our own. We start with the body we have today, embracing our limitations (whether it’s weak wrists, tight shoulders or hamstrings), and work with what we’ve got. We work on our mindset - with a sense of humor and curiosity, we learn, we grow, we practice. Every day.



 

Daily practice? But shouldn't I rest?

One of the beautiful aspects of yoga is that rest is part of it. Should you do power yoga or arm balances every day? If that’s your thing and your body’s up for it, go for it. But maybe not. Some days you might opt for a gentle flow or just some stretching and pranayama (breathing exercises). You can practice some form of yoga every day, and I highly recommend it. Just ten to twenty minutes each morning can set you up for a great day. Move your body, focus your attention, and pay attention to your breath. It doesn’t have to be complicated—just roll out your mat and start.


How can I make this a daily habit?

It’s simple, but not always easy: just do it. Decide that you want to feel better, and commit to some form of practice each day. Start small, maybe 10 minutes. Some days you’ll want to do more, but sometimes, 10 minutes is just right. If you’re unsure about a pose, there are tons of tutorials on YouTube. I just posted a Downward Facing Dog tutorial if you want to make sure your body parts are all in the right places and your alignment is on point.

 

I have a gentle 20-minute flow that’s perfect any time of day. I like to think of my yoga practice as a "moving meditation" that helps prepare my body and mind for the day ahead, or sometimes, to wind down at night.
